) 100 anys de Teatre Bartrina (Reus 1905 - 2005) ® Pragma Edicions
A hundred years, filled with cultural activities, have passed since that far-off day on 19th March 1905 when the Centre de Lectura’s first theatre was opened by popular subscription, on the initiative of a group of enthusiasts. Thirteen years later, on 26th October 1918, thanks to the contributions of Evarist Fàbregas, this simple theatre became the Teatre Bartrina we know today. Since then, a multitude of companies and groups have offered performances of all kinds: comedy, tragedy, musical sarsuela… and even cinema, variety and large-scale celebrations.
It is time, then, to look back in detail at the things the Teatre Bartrina has seen close up, and the events which led to its closure and subsequent reopening, bringing us up to the present. There can be no doubt that the Teatre Bartrina reflects the vitality of the cultural scene in Reus, as well as the efforts of many people and organisations to make the Bartrina a theatre for all.
